Teacher in the Paddock offers Holiday Programmes for individuals and 1 Day EOTC visits for school groups to learn about where their food comes from

Primary Teacher Kevin Powell runs “Teacher in the Paddock’ sustainable lifestyle courses with Jane, gardening guru who shares her wealth of knowledge about food.

On a small lifestyle block in Papamoa, Bay of Plenty, Kevin and Jane grow as much of their own food as possible, including milking their own cow.

Kevin and Jane share their passion for their lifestyle by hosting school groups, kindergarten children and early childhood centres.  Children experience the wonder of milking house cows, feeding chickens and learn about composting, worm farming and growing food. The aim is to foster a connection to nature through understanding where our food comes from and what it does to us.

We also hold popular outdoor interactive Holiday Programmes where over several daily visits the children can be children with nature, our farm and family life. There is the opportunity for horse riding, interaction with our animals, gardening and food production. As part of a small group of children the holiday programme enables your child to experience one on one exposure to daily life on a small farm. They will acquire life skills that will give them confidence and resilience for the challenges in today’s world.

During the next school holidays bring your children to our amazing programme, where they will discover the outdoors through Farming, Nature and Food.

Teacher in the Paddock After School Care programme enables the children in our care, on a daily basis, to achieve an even deeper understanding of a sustainable lifestyle.

For short-term visits for both children and adults we also have back yard workshops:
Jane holds relaxing, informal workshops on preparing probiotic foods and drinks and cultured foods.  This includes learning how to make sourdough bread, kefir water, kombucha and sauerkraut.  Kevin hosts the cheese making workshops for various cheeses.

We have a large number of schools visiting us, so booking ahead is absolutely essential.
(Contact us to discuss with Kevin how we can best fit in with your curriculum).

Depending on the age of your students a backyard workshop can also be included in your class visit:
