Camp Taringatura was established in the 1940s by the Presbyterian Church and given a major facelift by the new owners in 2015.

Surrounded by native bush, the camp at Dipton – 15km from Winton – is a long-time favourite of school groups and families.

There’s ample room to sleep up to 70 people in cabins plus almost unlimited room to pitch tents and park campervans.

Facilities include a big camp kitchen, showers and laundry, a barbecue and outdoor camp fire.

The new obstacle course has been modified for any level. Other onsite activities include a creek for swimming, grass netball, a basketball court and a fantastic mudslide.

Mountain bikers have 15 onsite acres to roam.

And there’s a ton of nearby activities for all age groups on offer: walking, hiking, bird watching, river kayaking and canoeing, swimming at the Dipton Stream in water holes and the big Oreti River – both of which are right at your doorstep.

Southland is a fly fishers dream come true. There are numerous streams, rivers, and lakes. Local guides can assist you with fly fishing. Rods are available for hire and lures for sale. But make sure you have arranged your fishing licence.

Oreti beach is close by and great for kiting of all kinds,  floundering and four-wheel driving. Rock climbing with arranged private access to Castle Rock is 23 km away, with a choice of around 50 routes to climb! Castle Downs rock climbing area has good scope for top-roping beginners and leading. There is also huge potential for bouldering.

There are local jet boat tours, sheep farms, dairy farm  “milk a cow” tours  and honey farms where, if you have the luck to be there at the right time, you can view the honey being freshly extracted from the honeycomb.

We have 70 beds and unlimited camping for tents, campers and caravans so see you there!
