David Guthrie performs under the name of David Storyweaver.

He entertains but is much more than an entertainer. He tells stories but not simply for the sake of telling stories. The motto is Story is at the living heart of culture and this captures his philosophy and approach. His storytelling, literature readings and dramatic renditions of Shakespeare are all related to a purpose, to bring to life the roots of our culture. It is in stories, above all else, that our cultural heritage, our wisdom and our values are conveyed.

Stories are powerful, even when apparently light and humorous. David lends the command of voice and body language to bring out that power and hold the attention of audiences of all ages, from 1 to 100+.

As well as his live performances, David records extensively to CD with nearly 40 CDs currently available and a rapidly growing catalogue. The bulk of these are recordings of the Bible in a project to record the whole of the scriptures under the Genesis label. Under the White Rabbit label there is a CD of his own stories with an extensive range of recordings in the planning stage. His recordings already account for a significant proportion of the download traffic from the Naxos site, www.naxosspokenwordlibrary.com

For schools providing NZCA Shakespeare in English 3.3, David is a resource to bring in Shakespeare’s words to life and engage the interest and involvement of learners.
