How to shift that last tricky and sticky 5kg.

Ok so you were 87 kilos and now you are 77kgs and you just need to lose 5kgs to reach your goal of 72kg to get comfortably into a size 12 and that’s good enough after all you were never a tiny 10. BUT that last 5kgs even the next 2kg will just not budge so what do you do?

Checklist

  1. What are you drinking? Alcohol and high sugar drinks are often the culprit with sticky weigh scales so cut down and if you like your tea and coffee with milk make them black. This can have a drastic effect on weight and you may lose the entire 5kg simply cutting down on high calorie and also milky caffeinated drinks. Helps cleanse the liver too, which in turn helps your system metabolise fat more easily. 

  2. It’s spring so eat a low G. I. salad as a main meal once a day. Use Quinoa or frozen peas instead of rice, bread or pasta as your carbohydrate and dress both the salad and carbs with alow fat salsa or a simple mix of lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil. 

  3. Your family eats higher calorie foods and you have begun nibbling on these. STOP! Keep some carrot sticks and chopped fruit handy or make the salad first and nibble on this when cooking your family’s meals. 

  4. Portion size has it crept up? A palmful of cooked rice is all you need per serve and it is the same for potatoes. Brown rice has a low G. I. and though more expensive I find the Basmati long grain brown rice quite quick to cook. You will find this is only available in Asian and Health food stores.

  5.  Cut out one or two of your meat meals each week and replace with fish or 2 poached eggs. 

  6. Your exercise routine is too easy and or boring. Shock the body and change what you do. Now it’s summer you can go swimming twice weekly instead of walking everyday or start interval training. Simply jog or do low-impact big strides for 30 seconds then walk for two minutes over a 20-minute section of your 50-minute to 1-hour walk. 

  7. Boredom is a weight loss killer. Try out a new and interesting recipe one day a week that you can add to your weight loss recipes. 

  8.  Replace lunch with a low fat smoothie and a banana 2 or 3 times a week. I find this is a good trick on Saturday shopping day and always feel slim on Sunday.

  9. Always eat regularly do not miss regular meals as you will stuff yourself during your next meal or eat a high calorie snack which makes the liver sluggish and most of your next two meals end up as stored fat. 

  10. Don’t whatever you do despair. Instead congratulate yourself on your current weight loss and the fact that you are maintaining a lower weight. 5kgs is not the be all and end all and if you are well and happy. Just have fun trying out the 9 other tips I have suggested one at a time and see which works the best for you.
