Saint Clair 2010 Vicar's Choice Sauvignon Blanc
 

This week's choice of wine is the 2010 Saint Clair Vicars Choice Sauvignon Blanc. Grapes for this wine are sourced from several vineyards and sub-regions in Marlborough. These sites include the classic Raupara area, Lower Wairau and the Brancott Valley. As with all fruit destined for Saint Clair wines, it was carefully monitored throughout maturity and was harvested once optimum flavour development and ripeness had been reached. 

Once harvested, the fruit was transported to the winery at haste and then pressed off with minimal skin contact. The resulting juice was cool fermented in 100% stainless steel to retain freshness and vibrant flavours.

I found this pale straw coloured wine to have wonderful aromas of passionfruit, grapefruit and blackcurrant with the hint of nettles, herbs and minerals. On the Palate, I found the 2010 Vicar's Choice Sauvignon Blanc to exhibit strong flavours of passionfruit, gooseberry and blackcurrant with citrus and pineapple notes adding to complexity. It has a pleasing, long lingering finish and is drinking very well now. 

As with any Sauvignon Blanc, it is a wine best enjoyed young. I would recommend trying it with fresh seafood.
