Give your students a unique experience sailing on Wellington harbour with the RPNYC Sailing Academy. The RPNYC Sailing Academy, based in Oriental Bay, are experts at getting novices out on the water. We offer a range of programs from 2 hour taster sails right through to full NCEA or Coastguard boating education accredited courses. With 6 keel boats right at the door we have the ability to get up to 42 students and 6 adult helpers on the water at any one time.

All sessions include a short safety briefing, followed by gearing up and getting out on the water. The focus of the sessions is having students actively participating in sailing the boat – including steering, adjusting and raising sails, and of course having fun.

The RPNYC Sailing Academy employs professional, Yachting New Zealand accredited instructors and all of our boats are part of the Maritime Safety Authorities Safe Ship Management program, ensuring a high level of safety. We also have a full risk management policy available on request.

All sails include an instructor, boat hire, use of Musto wet weather gear and lifejackets. Sails are charged at a rate of $125 per boat per hour, with a minimum recommended session time of 2 hours. Each boat can take up to 7 students, equating to $18 per hour per student, and one adult helper. An adult helper is required for all boats with students under the age of 16. Sessions can be run in almost any weather condition, although on particularly windy days sailing may be replaced by motoring around the inner harbour. In such situations, groups will be offered the choice of rescheduling.
