Sir Peter Blake Marine Education and Recreation Centre (MERC) is situated on the beach front at the southern end of Long Bay on Auckland’s North Shore, making it a perfect location for both land and water-based activities. MERC camps are an ideal way to build team-spirit within school classes and syndicates. Camps provide students with opportunities to realise some of their potential both as individuals and as leaders. MERC day-programmes also play an important part in reinforcing these personal attributes as well as allowing students to take part in opportunities that may not have previously been available to them.

MERC primarily offers tailor-made day-programmes and residential camps for primary, intermediate and secondary students. MERC is a charitable trust. One of MERC’s aims is to introduce as many people as possible to outdoor activities – in doing so, enabling people to create a greater understanding of themselves and the world around them. Instruction is provided by our team of fully-trained instructors between 9am and 4pm each day although programmes may be shortened if required.

MERC programmes are tailor-made to suit the aims and objectives for each group attending our facilities. This provides schools and teachers with a great deal of scope to incorporate outdoor activities into many areas of class learning and development.

Samples of activities on offer at MERC are:

• Abseiling
• Adventure Based Games
• Archery
