For young Corey, high school is hell. He is overweight and shy, so it is no wonder that he spends all his spare time playing counter-Strike on his computer. Things have been made worse by his mother’s ultimatum. He must join a sports team or loose the broadband connection.

Realising that this is a time when his mother is not going to give in, Corey looks for the easiest sports option. He reads that orienteering can be ‘like a stroll in the park’ and decides that it sounds like the sport for him. He joins the school orienteering club only to find out very quickly that it a much tougher sport than he thought. He suddenly finds himself well outside his normal physical and mental comfort zones. He can handle the maps and compasses but not the team mates, and then there is the physical side which proves as a fat and unfit boy he is totally out of his depth.

Through orienteering, Corey learns a lot about himself and about working as a team. He also learns how to use his strengths to overcome some of his shortcomings. Can he stop himself from making so many bad mistakes though.

It is a humorous, creative and gripping read that tugs at the emotions. It also shows readers what they can achieve with determination and by playing to their strengths. It is a story of someone surviving against the odds and about someone who isn’t sports minded or fit can take part in an exhilarating sport and actually enjoy it.
