When a body turns up in an empty apartment, it seems like someone has taken revenge for a bizarre rape and murder on the braes outside Glasgow many years earlier. The police station is under threat of closure and there is pressure to hand the case over to Partick Central, especially with the attack on the socialite’s sister being in their jurisdiction, but DCI Quinn is determined to keep the case, realising that the capture of the murderer may be the best way to save the station and keep her team together. If investigating officers DI Anderson and DS Costello are going to bring the crazed psychopath to justice, they will have to use every trick in the book. Meanwhile someone seems to be stalking Costello unobserved. Could the killer be closer than they think?

Dark Water is a moody, thrilling mystery with good character development and a complex plot. Caro Ramsay draws on the Scottish weather to add to the atmosphere and to make the job that much harder for the investigating team. This thriller has excellent twists and turns, keeping the reader guessing and making it a hard thriller to put down. The characters are believable and the subplots re also intriguing and engaging. It is an excellent thriller.
