Written by the author of Collision, Sacrifice introduces the concept of an apocalyptic New Zealand. A land not devastated by war or human sources but by natural disasters. It is an absorbing and thought provoking adventure set in an unfamiliar future.

As with Collision, Joanna Orwin researched the premises of this book to ensure they are plausible, giving the book a touch of reality. It is interesting though that the society she envisages though seems similar in both features and structure to a pre-European Polynesian society, even with their beliefs and religious concepts, making it just as believable if set 500 years ago as in the future.
