The Secret Of Willow Ridge Gabe’s Dad Finds Recovery by Helen H Moore with illustrations by John Blackford and foreword by Claudia Black PhD

The Secret of Willow Ridge tells the story of Gabe, his little sister Izzie and their parents as their father’s dark secret is exposed when he decides to go into recovery for his addiction. Their lives then turn from secrets and fear to hope and happiness as they learn about addiction and find that they aren’t the only family that has an addicted parent.

Gabe and Izzy support their father through his recovery and realise that life’s problems can only be dealt with when they are in the open. They travel with their father on a positive and uplifting journey with their father. It is a difficult journey and needs a major event to prompt their father to take it, but the whole family is better for it. The book shows that an addiction doesn’t just affect the person with the problem but also those family members around them.

The Secret Of Willow Ridge is about a family dealing with a parent who is suffering from addiction and going into recovery. It is a poignant and thought provoking book that shows anyone with addicts in the family that they are not alone. It is a story of affirmation and hope. It also shows that problems can be dealt with and lived with if they are confronted openly.
