The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C S Lewis.

C S Lewis wrote seven novels, featuring the mystical land of Narnia, and these stories have since captured the imagination of generations. This year sees the latest release of one of these stories as a film, and the re-release of Lewis’ novel The Voyage of the Dawn Treader coincides with this.

In The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Edmund and Lucy return to Narnia with their beastly cousin Eustace after the three look at a very realistic picture of a sailing ship and fall into the sea. The painting is of Prince Caspian’s ship The Dawn Treader. Prince Caspian has set sail to find lost friends of his father, seven lords banished by his evil uncle, Miraz.

As the children take to the Eastern Seas on the first ship Narnia has seen for centuries, they too join the quest and find themselves embroiled in a dangerous quest that once again leads them to Aslan, the lion.

Although Lewis’s wonderful storytelling ability means that readers do not necessarily need to read other books in the series to follow this one, I would recommend reading the previous books first to get a better idea of the world and also because all the books in the series tend to have readers wanting more. It is a fantasy adventure that children over seven will love. Their imagination will be drawn into the story, just like the three children were drawn into the painting.
