What’s Happening To Our Boys by Maggie Hamilton

Some might just think that this book is just jumping on the band-wagon of putting all boys in an at risk category because of the failings of a few, and for those, their proof will no doubt found in some of the shocking material covered in this book. While it is true though that not all boys will fail at school, have violence issues or sexual problems, it is also true that our social culture has changed and boys face pressures and confusion about their roles in society than before.

Maggie Hamilton gained notoriety for her book ‘What’s Happening To Our Girls’, and in this, her follow up book, she also aims to answer questions on what is happening to the young men in our society. This book also provides numerous tips for parents and educators on how to create a more promising future for our boys and help relieve some of the pressures they face. .

Maggie Hamilton draws on interviews with over 70 experts including doctors’ psychologists, police, and teachers along with interviews with 50 boys themselves to understand the challenges they face. Through the research she has completed in order to write it, she is able to suggest positive and constructive ways to help boys grow into resilient, productive and happy individuals. It is well worth reading and gives educators some practical suggestions to improve boys’ outcomes.
