Beast Quest Ravira: Ruler of the Underworld by Adam Blade

Beast Quest is a fantasy novel series written by various work for hire writers under the nom de plume of Adam Blade. The mythical kingdom of Avantia is in peril, with the evil Marvel, The Dark Wizard trying to control the kingdom. Ancient scripts predict an unlikely hero, a boy who will take up the quest to save the kingdom. The main protagonist of the series is Tom, the only son of Taladon the Swift, a knight of Avantia. Taladon the Swift disappeared when Tom was a baby, so he was brought up by his aunt and uncle in the village of Errinel. Tom inherited his great courage from his father.

Tom has embarked on a quest to free the kingdom from the evil curses placed upon the beasts that protect it. He also hopes to one day find what happened to his father. On his quest he has a magic map, a jet black stallion called Storm and help from his best friend Elenna. Elenna is also strong and courageous, and she is very skilled as an archer.

Each book in the series comes with collectors cards. In a great value offer, Ravira is also being sold with the first book in the series (Ferno) and also a poster.

In this instalment of the adventure novel series where you take your own path, evil wizard Malvel has stolen a magical dagger and seeks to use it to control the peaceful land of Gorgonia. In order to defeat him, readers will need to defeat two terrifying Beasts that guard the dagger, Marlik the Drowning Terror and Klaxa the Armoured Enemy.

Readers do have help though from Tom and Elenna. However the choices will be theirs alone. They must remember though that choosing the wrong quest will cause them to fail and they might not survive.

Ferno: The Fire Dragon by Adam Blade

The Fire Dragon, no-one yet knows who the boy is that will go on the quest to free the kingdom, and while legends say that there are six beasts protecting the kingdom, no-one knows if they really exist. That is until a knight is attacked by a fire dragon proving that not only do they exist but the beasts have been cursed by Marvel. When the village of Errinel is attacked by the dragon, Tom’s uncle decides to go to the king for help, but he is the leader of the village and needed there to help his people. Tom insists that he goes instead, even though he is just a boy.

The curse put on the beasts means that only a true hero can free them and stop them destroying the land. Could Tom be the boy of legend? In order to save the land from famine and the destruction of Avantia, Tom must venture to the Winding River’s nearby mountain to free Ferno. There is just one problem, Ferno will kill him if he has the chance. Ferno is a great introduction to the series and a great way for children to get some of the background leading to the other book, Ravira: Ruler of the Underworld.

In Ravira: Ruler of the Underworld, Tom is not dealing with a beast that is supposed to be guarding the kingdom but a new beast that has risen from the underworld. Ravira reeks of death and commands a pack of fearsome Avantian Hounds. Just one bite from these hounds will turn their victims into slaves. Taladon has also returned and is in danger from the hounds; he has already been bitten and unless Ravira is defeated before the moon rises, eh will be forced to live out eternity as one of the Hounds of Avantia. Can Tom save him before he is turned into a slave?

Beast Quest is a good fantasy series for children over seven. The stories are easy to follow and have plenty of action, the characters strong and the beasts dangerous.
