Inspired by a tale of a magical golden snail with the ability to turn itself into a magnificent galleon which was banished to the ends of the earth by a grand enchanter, a young boy named Wilbur sets out on a mission to free it. Along the way he makes friends who save him from rough seas and mazes of madness, but what will happen when he finds the Golden Snail. Legend says that the snail can be freed by a Grand Enchanter or Gallant Captain. Wilbur sees himself as a grand Enchanter like the one in the book but is he really cut out for the job?

Graeme Base is one of the world’s leading creators of picture books. His books including Animalia and The Eleventh Hour have received international acclaim and have been turned into films or animation series.

In an unusual twist, The Legend OF The Golden Snail actually contains a book within a book within a book, as the title page has a copy of the version that Wilbur became captivated by. The illustrations in the book also look great and are in keeping with this magical story. The story contains twists too as some of the things he encounters are not as they first seem. It is also a book that shows that some kindness has its return, that sometimes things can be different than they first seem and about going with you think is right instead of trying to be something you’re not. It is a magical tale children aged five and over will love.
