Shark Wars by E J Altbacker

While the name might conjure up images of an extreme fishing show, perhaps on Discovery Channel, this book is not about fishing at all, and its main characters are sharks.

Gray is the biggest shark in his clan and his insatiable appetite has forced him from the reef. Accompanied by his best friend, Berkley, the hunt for food has taken him into the dangerous Big Blue, where the two accidentally swim into Goblin Shiver territory.

They are left with no choice but to join the Goblin Shiver and fight against the rival Razor Shiver sharks. Berkley and Gray then get separated, and Berkley learns something terrible about Goblin Shiver. Will Grey be all right as an even bigger battle awaits, one that will test his courage and elegances?

E J Altbacker right at the start creates his own creation myth, maybe to make his chosen creatures seem human and more likeable. After all it is pretty hard to like sharks with all the bad press they get. Despite the creatures he uses, E J Altbecker could have easily written the same story using human like creatures on a different planet, and at times it is easy to forget the protagonists are actually sharks in an underwater world.
